A DAY AT THE SPA

After two plus years of riding in helicopters, bouncing in jeeps, racing go-karts, hiking the entire state, and being licked by a giraffe, I said to my beloved father, “How aboud a little pampering? A day to relax?” And so it came to pass that I recently spent a day at the Spa Lamar in Scottsdale.

During the past 25 years, Spa Lamar has gained a loyal following among locals and visitors alike with their "spend a day, not a fortune!" philosophy. Arizona's largest and oldest privately owned resort-style spa has built it's reputation on providing the best day spa deals in town. Massages, Facials and Pedicures start at just $50, including all day use of the steam room, sauna, swimming pool, whirlpool and a complimentary fruit and beverage bar. A hearty spa lunch is also available for just $15 including a salad, sandwich, beverage and homemade cookie.

A Day at the SpaMy glorious day started in the nail salon. I relaxed in a cushioned massage chair while my feet joyously soaked in warm water. As I drifted into my happy place, my legs were massaged and my toenails were painted an electric purple! It was so soothing and my toes ended up looking like superstars.

Eager for the rest of my day at the spa to continue, I walked out to the lounge, grabbed a granola bar and a glass of water, and waited to be called for my eyebrow waxing and facial. Moments later I was greeted by Sami, and taken into a private room with calming music playing in the background.

After a few minutes of getting my eyebrows wonderfully reshaped, it was time for my first facial. I laid down on a table and my face was steamed and cleansed. By the end, I felt like I was in a relaxing dream. I walked out very, very refreshed.

Last but not least, I had an appointment in the hair salon. Nicki did an amazing job giving my hair a fresh, new style. By the time she was done, I felt like a movie star! It was fabulous.

Spa Lamar has all of the Day Spa amenties you expect, like showers, hair dryers and lockers, robes and sandals and a few surprises too. The couple-friendly spaces helped Spa Lamar receive the "The Best Place to Take a Date" award from Phoenix City Search. The Bamboo Room is host to a wide variety of dance classes, including a Tap class taught by a retired Rockette and a Hip Hop class lead by a former Cardinals cheerleader. The Palm Room, which seats 75, banquet-style or 100 in theater formation, is a popular spot for Birthday, Bridal or other shower celebrations.

Spa Lamar is the kind of place that feels like home and that is no accident. Owner Heidi Lamar is absolutely wonderful. Every detail is attended to.

I’m not sure what crazy adventure my dad has in store for me next. But I now know where to go to relax and rejuvinate.
