“Carefree Arizona is a place for gracious living in a desert forest of rare beauty.” The town of Carefree, settled in the foothills of the Sonoran Desert amid lush terrain and ancient boulders, offers refuge from the larger cities of Phoenix and Scottsdale to the south.

The majestic beauty of Black Mountain dominates the horizon with spectacular homes perfectly camouflaged amongst the massive boulders and rock formations. A prefect day out would include a hike to the top for impressive views of the Sonoran Foothills.

When asked about the amusing street names within the town, the founding fathers KT Palmer and Tom Darlington would say they were shaken from a gin bottle! There’s no doubt they had a sense of humor with streets such as Ho Hum, Easy Street, Bloody Basin and Nonchalant.

Carefree Marketplace is the first to welcome visitors as they drive north from Scottsdale. The Marketplace offers a wide assortment of services, dining and retail opportunities, as well as an award winning Café.

Following the Sundial signs to the downtown area, Carefree has evolved over the years into an eclectic mix of boutiques, restaurants and galleries. At the town center is the historic Carefree Sundial, the town’s landmark inspiring the quote “Carefree, where the sun marks time.” Strolling the retail district, one can easily walk to all the charming independent merchants and local services. Spanish Village features a beautiful courtyard with shopping and dining al fresco. The Carefree Galleria building plays host to artists, home décor stores and one of a kind boutiques.

Walk the length of Easy Street and browse the shops and restaurants. Take in the beauty of Carefree’s botanical garden with shady seating areas, a sculpture garden, fountains and play areas for children.

Downtown Carefree and its Amphitheater offer the perfect backdrop for outdoor cultural events, from fine art shows and wine tastings to town concerts and an annual Christmas Festival.

A short drive east from the downtown area takes you towards the town’s own private airport Sky Ranch, and to the famous Carefree Resort and Conference Center.
