Cave Creek Trail Rides
Have you ever dreamed of riding off into the sunset cowboy style? Since 1999, Cave Creek Trail Rides has allowed guests to experience the old west on horseback. A trail ride on a mountain horse allows you to step back in Arizona history 150 years when mining and ranching were a way of life in Cave Creek, Phoenix and Scottsdale.
In the foothills north of Phoenix sits the 2,922-acre Cave Creek Regional Park in the upper Sonoran Desert. Ranging in elevation from 2,000 to 3,060 feet, this desert oasis provides the equestrian with majestic views. Trails meander through backcountry passes and mines, providing the illusion of being miles away from civilization. The Cave Creek Recreation Area is located on 32nd Street North off the Carefree Highway mid-way between Interstate 17 and Scottsdale Road. Cave Creek Trail Rides is located inside the park – simply follow the horse symbols on the signs.
Horseback Riding Adventures
The old west experience begins right away as guests have the option of getting dressed in boots, hats and chaps. They’ll even throw in a rope and a toy gun to add to the fun! After dress up, it’s all about safety. Helmets are fitted for those who want them and are required for children 6-12 years old. The cowboy guide goes over the basics and answers any questions that guests may have. Loading is quick and easy thanks to an 18 inch ramp. Once astride your trusty steed you are led up the alleyway, stirrups are adjusted and all gear is checked.
Horses start out and continue at a leisurely pace. It’s not long before the gentle rocking of these beautiful animals lulls even the nervous riders. The guides entertain and educate riders about the desert plants and animals seen along this beautiful Sonoran Desert setting.
Cave Creek Trail Rides offers one-hour loop and sunset tours as well as a three-hour tour for those who want more time on horseback. Our premiere offering is the one and a half hour sunset ride. Offered during a quiet, peaceful time of day, this spectacular ride puts you out on the trail as the sun sets and you return to the corral as dusk settles over the desert. Take a deep breath, breathe the smell of the desert and horses one last time and know that you have a memory to last a lifetime.
