2. River Island State Park Camping
The camping at River Island State Park is excellent. It has a small campground with just 37 sites, but many of these sites are right along the beach. The campground is set alongside the Colorado River and surrounded by cliffs on the other three sides. The tent campsites are well shaded with trees and the RV sites are situated between rock cliffs. The facilities are modern and the bathrooms are clean.
Camping here is convenient and the small and quaint River Island Market, which is located just outside the park, provides groceries, a deli, fuel, and clothing at its boutique.
3. Colorado River Fun
Whether you want to dip your toes in or go for a light swim, or you’re up for some boating or tube floating, this stretch of the Colorado River is perfect. It offers a fun-filled water adventure right in the middle of the dry desert country. The sun is always shining and the water is always cool and comfortable. There’s a spacious white sand beach to top it all off.
Water sports you can enjoy in the summer include boating, jet skiing, and swimming. During the winter months temperatures are too cool for water activities, but the park offers excellent fishing. Here you’ll find an abundant supply of smallmouth and largemouth bass, bluegill, carp, catfish and striper.

There are plenty of trails and back country roads where you can take in the scenery and catch views of the might Colorado. The climate is mild and moderate all year round and a gentle wind picks up during the evenings.
In addition, River Island State Park offers family entertainment and it’s a great place for dog lovers. There is a dog run, a fenced-in dog park and it’s okay for dogs to swim in the river.
The park is close to Buckskin State Park, which is another great place to enjoy the river. There are other Arizona State Parks in the area as well.
