Tombstone, Arizona, is the “Town Too Tough To Die.” It earned this nickname because of its violent past, but it also reveals something else true about the town – It’s still here after all these years, offering Arizona travelers a glimpse into the state’s Wild West past. Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park is alive with history. Walking through its old courtroom, you get a sense of what life was like during the old west. This town swelled to 10,000 people in just ten short years. They came here looking for opportunity but many of them faced their fate in this very courthouse. When you look out the courtroom windows you can see the swinging gallows, which shows you just how close justice and death were.

Old West Historical Exhibits

The courthouse was built in 1882 in the shape of a Roman cross. It housed the local government and the town jail. Now, it’s been turned into a museum that’s packed full of exhibits about the area’s history.

Exhibits include a preserved sheriff’s office, artist drawings of the fabled gunfight, images of Wyatt Earp, a saloon and gaming room, exhibits about the mining of the area, and lawyers offices that are perfectly preserved. In addition to the exhibits in the courthouse, Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park also has a gift shop full of things to take home, as well as two shaded picnic areas where you can relax or enjoy a meal.

You can experience its history by strolling down Allen Street, the main drag that was once teeming with fortune seekers and outlaws.
