Watch artists work or just come see their creations at the Grand Canyon Celebration of Art. Over 25 artists engage in a plein air competition to represent the shifting light and shadow, amazing land forms, and vibrant colors of the vast landscape Grand Canyon.
The Celebration of Art is hosted each year by the Grand Canyon Association. This annual event includes 6 days of art-making events followed by a 4-month long exhibition.
The 10th Annual Celebration of Art begins with live artists’ demonstrations September 8-13, 2018.
The exhibit and sale at Kolb Studio on the South Rim runs September 16, 2018 through January 14, 2019. View the full schedule of events on the Association’s website.
Grand Canyon Celebration of Art: Why It Is Unique
Every September, park visitors and residents have an opportunity to watch artists paint Grand Canyon as they seek to capture its beauty from various stunning viewpoints.
Each artist brings a completed studio piece with them. They then create more pieces on the South Rim, on the North Rim, at Phantom Ranch and at Indian Garden.
At the end of the week, artists enter a 2-hour Quick Draw Event in Grand Canyon Village. Afterwards, the Quick Draw Auction gives park residents and visitors the opportunity to bid on the paintings that they watched take form. It’s a chance to bring a piece of Grand Canyon home.
Proceeds from this event support the goal of funding an art venue at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. This permanent home will ensure that future generations of park visitors will be able to view the stunning art collection in the Grand Canyon National Park Museum and Grand Canyon Association Collections.
