50 years of authentically preserving and perpetuating western life in fine art
Fifty years ago, four prominent Arizona artists formed the Cowboy Artists of America, a professional brotherhood that became one of the most influential artist groups in the nation’s history.
With CAA’s Arizona roots, it’s fitting that Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West is presenting a golden anniversary retrospective featuring 77 artists and more than 90 paintings and sculptures that reflect what many consider to be the best of western American representational art.
A Salute to Cowboy Artists of America and a Patron, the Late Eddie Basha: 50 Years of Amazing Contributions to the American West is on exhibit now through May 31, 2016.
The exhibition features several pieces rarely seen by the public, on loan from collectors, the artists themselves, and institutions. This includes artworks on loan from The Eddie Basha Collection, one of the largest private collections of contemporary western American and American Indian art in the world.
In addition to the CAA exhibition, the Smithsonian Affiliate museum features a variety of regularly changing exhibitions, entertaining events, and informative public programs that bring the nation’s western heritage to life.
